High School Report

 

Regional Chorus

 

Southern Fulton High School had two students advance to the regional round of PMEA chorus this year.  Those students are Mariah Hill and William Taylor.  These students will travel to State College, PA for the regional festival and a chance to participate in All-State Chorus.  Those dates are March 10-13. 

 

Recycling

 

Recycling is going fabulous!  FFA is in charge of the milk bottle recycling program, while the Environmental Club along with the Life Skills students are taking care of the rest of the building (classrooms, offices, etc).  So far, so good!

Elementary Report

 

Conferences

 

Lindsey Yorke (aide in Pre-K classroom) and Amber Goldizen (Pre-K teacher) will be attending a workshop on Saturday, Feb. 20, “Exploring Developmental Needs and Characteristics of Different Age Groups”. (To be paid by the Pre-K Grant)

 

Andrew Rupert (counselor) will be attending the PA School Counselor Association Conference on May 20 and 21, as budgeted. 

 

Kendra Trail and Tammi Ifert (Title I teacher) will be attending the PA Federal Program Conference in Hershey, PA, from March 22 – 24 as per Title II funds.

 

Building Usage

 

Lori Hansroth, County Extension Director and 4-H Youth Development Coordinator, has requested the use of a classroom on Monday, February 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. for the purpose of a 4-H meeting.

 

Lori Hansroth will also be coordinating a program for sixth-grade students entitled, “Friends Helping Friends” in the elementary library from 3-4:00 on the following dates: Feb. 17, 19, 22, 24, March 1, 3, 5, and 8. The following topics will be discussed: Learn friendship skills and what it means to be a loyal friend, learn how to talk to adults when friends are in trouble, understand the harmful risks of using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, etc.

 

Lori Hansroth will be coordinating a program for students in grades 3-5 and their parents entitled, “Family Fitness Program”. This program is in conjunction with the elementary PANA (Pennsylvania Association for Nutrition and Activity) initiative. The program will be in the elementary gymnasium on March 4, 11, 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Children will make and eat healthy snacks, play new active games, discover ways to be active at home, etc. Parents will discuss ways to improve their child’s and family’s fitness, etc.

 

Pennsylvania Conservation Corps Grant

 

Great progress has been made on the amphitheatre and the kiosk.

 

Pre-K

 

The Pre-K specialist was here to monitor the program on February 16.

 

Pre-K registration will be held on March 4 and 5.

 

Pre-K funds may be used to pay for the fence to enclose the playground.

 

College Board

 

Michelle Cosner from College Board will be meeting with Mr. Scott, Mrs. Hendershot, and me regarding the possibility of having an AP (Advanced Placement) class at SFHS. This meeting had to be postponed. I am in the process of rescheduling the meeting.

Federal Programs Report

 

Our Title I dollar amount was adjusted. The original amount was $184,009.00; however, the new amount is now $153,856.00 – a loss of $30,153.00.

 

Several Federal Program reports were submitted during the month of February.

Technology Specialist Report

 

 

eRate

 

I submitted our eRate forms for the 2010-2011 school year.  If approved we should receive about $14,000 in discounts for telecommunications services.  This does not include our Internet access as we receive eRate discounts thru the IU for this service.
