The Board of Directors of the Southern Fulton School District met for the regular board meeting at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in the library of the high school at Warfordsburg.   The following members were present:

 

Patrick Bard, Danny Crouse, Donald Whiteside, Edgar Yates, John McKee, Kenny Wuertenberg, Timothy Mellott, and Dwight Bard.

 

Also present were Ralph R. Scott, superintendent; Dr. Brett Gilliland, high school principal; Doug Leisher, technology specialist; Michael Shaw, facilities manager; Debra Schetrompf, business manager; and Betty Feagley, board secretary.

 

Visitors present were:  Chanin Rotz Mountz from the Fulton County News, David Smith, Glenn Ward, Neva Null and Sarah Ann Null.

 

1. The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. John McKee and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mr. Dwight Bard.

 

2.      Student Recognition. Sarah Ann Null was recognized for being on the Eggnoggin Group who placed 4th overall.

 

3.      Citizens’ Participation.  Chuck Frame from Boyer and Ritter presented his audit findings.

 

4.      A motion was made by Mr. Donald Whiteside and seconded by Mr. Patrick Bard to approve the minutes of the December 4, 2007, Board Meeting.

5.      Communications.  There were three letters of resignation:  one from F. Bart Elbin as Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, one from Julie Dickerhoff as Varsity Volleyball Coach, and one from Billie Brown as High School Mathematics teacher.

 

 

6.      A motion was made by Mr. Danny Crouse and seconded by Mr. John McKee to accept with regret the following letters of resignation and to advertise immediately:   

 

a.       F. Bart Elbin as Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, effective immediately.

 

b.      Julie Dickerhoff as Varsity Head Volleyball Coach, effective November 16, 2007.

 

c.       Billie Brown as high school mathematics teacher effective March 12, 2008.

7.      A motion was made by Mr. Donald Whiteside and seconded by Mr. Timothy Mellott to approve Karen Smartt as a substitute secretary and aide for the 2007-2008 school year pending completion of paperwork.

8.      A motion was made by Mr. John McKee and seconded by Mr. Timothy Mellott to approve Lindsey Bard as a substitute teacher for the 2007-2008 school year pending completion of paperwork.

9.      A motion was made by Mr. Donald Whiteside and seconded by Mr. Danny Crouse to approve the unpaid leave of absence under the FMLA of 1993 pursuant to the law and regulations for Michelle Trail for approximately six weeks starting tentatively April, 22, 2008, to the end of the school year.

10.  A motion was made by Mr. Patrick Bard and seconded by Mr. Donald Whiteside to approve Mrs. Jamie Shipley as a long-term substitute for Mrs. Jennifer Keebaugh, while on FMLA leave at a rate of $110.00 per day.

11.  A motion was made by Mr. John McKee and seconded by Mr. Donald Whiteside to approve the following conferences:

 

a.       Connie Mellott to attend the Attendance/Child Accounting Professional Association Conference on March 12 - 14, 2008, in Hershey, PA as budgeted.

 

b.      Tammi Ifert and Kendra Trail to attend PDE’s “Indicators for Success Improvement, Performance, and Results” in Hershey, PA on February 25-27, 2008.

16.  School Directors were presented with certificates of appreciation from PSBA in honor of School Directors’ Recognition Month.  Mr. Dwight Bard was presented with a certificate recognizing his twelve years and a certificate was sent to Bill Whiteside recognizing him for his eight years of service.

 

17.  A motion was made by Mr. Patrick Bard and seconded by Mr. Donald Whiteside to accept the administrative reports as presented.

18.  Solicitor Carl Beard addressed the Board regarding the roles and responsibilities of school board members as a follow-up to PSBA’s Pride & Promise campaign.

 

19.  A motion was made by Mr. Danny Crouse and seconded by Mr. Patrick Bard to adjourn the meeting.  VOICE VOTE, All in Favor.  Motion Carried.
